Ondekoza is a world-renowned taiko group focused on expressing “the sounds of Japan”. The group’s mission is to spread the spirit of harmony throughout the world and promote the importance of exchange across racial, ethnic, religious, and cultural boundaries, especially among young generations and musicians.
Ondekoza is based in Fuji, Higashi-Chichibu, and Aizu and has been active both in Japan and abroad. In 1969, Ondekoza was formed in Sado, Niigata, by a group of young people who gathered under the vision of the late Den Tagayasu. He believed that running and music are one and the same and that running is a reflection of life’s drama and energy.
Starting with a 10km run at 6am, the drummers spend each day training, and sharing their message and sounds to the world.
